Kidneys

 

The kidneys are a pair of bean-shaped organs that filter blood, remove waste, and produce urine. They are located in the back of the abdomen, just below the rib cage, and on either side of the spine. 

 

The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs, each about the size of a fist. They are located just below the rib cage, one on each side of your spine. Healthy kidneys filter about a half cup of blood every minute, removing wastes and extra water to make urine.

 

Kidney Function

· Filter blood: Healthy kidneys filter about half a cup of blood every minute. 

 

· Make urine: Kidneys remove waste and extra water from the blood to create urine. 

 

· Balance electrolytes: Kidneys maintain the balance of electrolytes like sodium, calcium, phosphorus, and potassium in the blood. 

 

· Produce hormones: Kidneys produce hormones that help control blood pressure, make red blood cells, and keep bones strong. 

 

Kidney Problems 

 

· Kidney disease occurs when the kidneys are damaged and can’t filter blood properly.

 

· Other kidney problems include kidney cysts, kidney stones, and kidney infections.

 

Kidney Health

 

 

· To reduce the risk of kidney problems, you can: 

 

o Avoid or quit smoking

o Eat a healthy diet

o Reduce salt intake

o Exercise regularly

o Maintain a healthy weight

o Monitor blood pressure

o Watch blood sugar levels if you have diabetes

· Look after hand to mouth people at Eid ul Fitr

· Distribute meat among hand to mouth people at Eid ud Doha by sacrificing lambs and cows
